i read in the book "Marine Fishes" bye Scott Michael that Niger Triggers "may nip at sopnges, tunicates, ornamental crustaceans, and snails". And that they are harmless to corals. Will he mess with my anemone?

Not likely, but there may be some individuals that would bother the anemone. I recently saw an article in a national magazine that showed a niger trigger in a reef tank that included clams and SPS corals. I e-mailed the author and he said niger triggers are "reef safe...they are planktavores." I would still be cautious about putting them with any crabs or shrimps.

Jesscola, We kept our niger trigger in our reef for about 71/2 months until we bought our 200 gal and transfered him into there. He never bothered anyone! Never! We got some crap on board for keeping a niger trigger in our reeftank, why, I don't know, maybe someone has had a bad experience keeping one, we have had nothing but a great experience in our reef and now our 200gal. I have a niger in my reef too... had him in there since I started the reef about a year ago. Never bothered a soul (except for a fire goby my wife tried to add). The niger has never bothered any of the anemones, corals, crabs, shrimps, or starfish that we have had. He is very curious about anything we put in the tank (he often bites at the bags while we float new stock before adding to the tank), but doesn't bother it once it's in the tank. He often gets right up close to the new animal (like he's going to bite), but I think he's just checking it out.
He is still a trigger though, and triggers as a species are rather agressive. Just because a few people on the board have nigers in their reef, that doesn't mean that you won't get one that eats everything. Remember, every fish is different, they all have their own personalities.
Good luck.
