niger trigger faded

I got a niger trigger yesterday and his color was very dark blue, almost black. Today he is very light blue, with almost a purplish hue?? Does this indicate a problem of some kind. He is in a 75 gal, FO tank and the only ohter fish in there is a volitan lion.

saltysyd,
What else do you plan to stock in your 75, or are you just wanting those two fish? Also, because I have a 75 FOWLR community right now, what protein skimmer are you running, and how did you aquascape your tank. Good luck, I see nigers in the LFS all the time, they are neat swimmers.

I agree, fish can change their color hue. I have two groupers that not only can change hue, but color patterns as well. First time I saw this I was mesmerized.....

If you just got the niger, I wouldn't be shocked at the fading. If it's long term, I'd maybe be concerned.

I've had one do that, looked purple almost. He was just excited to be in his new tank.

I have a lion with him also maybe the lion got him but he was fine back to normal with in hours but not sure if the lion got him. my niger like to be touched so go figure!!! BioReefer

I have a Niger and Humu and both fade in and out all day, it definitly seems to be in cue with their mood. When excited or scared, their colors get very dark. But when they are relaxed, sleeping or just chilling out they seem to fade to a light hue. I say watch it on the long run.
