Not quite sure I understand what you are asking.
Are you meaning what lionsohmy said - or what.
Some sort of covert nightime operation to view you tank critters without disturbing them ?
You can use any light at night - just turn it on - any you are using it.
What are you asking ????????
I have a black light on my 135gal and when i turn it on at night none of the fish seem to react to it coming on so i think its ok. But i dont use it all the time and when i do the tanks colors look very different but realy awesome to see espeacilaly any anemones and corals they take on new colors and some of the fish and even the stuff on the rocks glow in weird different colors, but i dont know if there are any adverse affects on anything but there dont seem to be.---- Bill
RED light.. there is a red PC light that some people use.. but I have a $2 incandescent red light from *****.. just a lil 15W normal bulb with a outdoor light fixture.. works great.. the fish dont notice it and its not enough wattage to affect algae growth.. but you can see everything in the tank.
No info on the black light.. I dont know.. its a pretty high wavelength.. I wouldnt use it.. but the red light bulb is sold everywhere.. go to ***** where the flourescents are sold.. look on the bottom shelf.. you will see 4 or 5 cheap little bulbs that can screw into a normal light socket.. (incandescent) then get an OUTDOOR light fixture from home depot.. mount it ini the top of your hood.. Wire it up and plug it in your wall.. simple as that.. you can put it on a timer.. but I let mine run all day.. puts almost no heat.. whalaah.. red light.
