thats really not going to work.
Every tank has different lighting, color, water movement.
Best thing to do is just play with it until you find the setting that works best for your tank

Typical settings are manual focus, f9-f19 (depends on subject) iso is usually @200. Exposure compensation is tricky but most of the time it's -7. Most of the time i'm in "A" mode but starting to move over to total manual...

I try to stay in "p" most of the time. But your settings sound very similar. I just wanted to see what other people have done with this camera. Plus the pics of your tank are b-e-a-utiful.

P isnt a setting really. P is basically full auto except you have the option to control the ISO unlike in the green square.
I advise to move out of those auto modes so you can have some actual control over the image and camera.

Doesnt seem to be the last one I replied to.
Sorry but your whole thread is a FAIL. 1 like I said every tank is going to make settings totally different. 2 the settings one would use on a D40 is pretty much the same for all cameras. They all follow the same rules of exposure, shutter speed, aperture settings.
So instead of trying to be a ---- and sound like you are whitty with your remarks. You should take some of my advice.
I know a thing or 2 with it. I am sure alot of others can fill you in on that as well. I am trying to help but you just dont seem to understand that to well

If I can get some time this weekend i'll give you a call. I have a lot of orders to send out (I run www.byvampdesign.com) so we'll see how that goes.
BTW what LFS do you go to in the Valley? I frequent Green Valley Aquariums, Atlantis (on the other side of the universe for me), and Trop-Aquarium.

Nope that is NOT what you asked. you asked what D40 owners use. It would have been different if you asked what EVERYONE uses on their tank for settings.

Because i'd like to see how their settings compare to mine. So again, why are you being an ass. Just stop being an "e-thug" and move on. Stop crapping this thread.

Green Valley is a train wreck, give me a break, hours are M-F 1-8 and Sat 12-8 and half the tanks are empty....Atlantis is always good for a side splitting laugh, like the 6" rock of GSP for $95 and the 3" crocea for $85
or the 4" strand of red kelp on a 1" rock for $30....Trop Aquarium has a good selection some of the time, if you were to analyze the sales staffs DNA I think it would come back somewhere between a ferret and salamander
