nitrate and nitrite

I am also starting a second tank. The nitrates and nitrites are very high. This tank has only been running for about 3 weeks. I made the mistake of throwing in a few damsels to start the cycle. The fish are acting fine, is there anything to do to get these levels down while the tank cycles.
I wish I could have found this site before I started my tanks.

You could change a little water. Doing so may prolong the cycle but your fishies will probably appreciate it.
