I have used Kent nitrate sorb in my canisters for a long time. I just add the stuff into a little mesh pouch. I think it helps but it is hard to prove weather I have low nitrates (low to me being about 20) because of the stuff or because I have good maintenance practices. (like vacuuming the cc bed and taking great care of the media in those canisters of mine. Bottom line is it doesn't hurt--but I wouldn't depend on it solely. If you have very high nitrates now--first find the source and then take care of it.Then use the stuff in ADDITION to not instead of good maintenace practices to keep them low.
Good Luck

The chips work but they need to be in an area of a sump or filter where there is a low flow rate and very little oxygen. Otherwise they will cultivate the same bacteria that gets on the bio wheel
