I have a 1 year old 50 gal. with a couple eels a lion and a file fish. I've got live rock and snails. I use an emperor 280, and protien skimmer. I also have a strong power head attached to an under gravel filter that covers only half the tank. It seems like a lot of detritus accumulates on the undergravel filter side, and my nitrates having been getting higher and higher when I test, Do you think I should remove the under gravel filter? Will this help my nitrate problem?

I had ugf's in all my tanks and have switched to a dsb because of high nitrate and every tank is lower than what it was and still dropping, high nitrate is not a huge problem in fowlr tank although lowest reading are best
