1) Find the source (substrate, overstocked...etc)
2) Refugium with macro's
3) More live rock
Dont use commercial products!

Larger portion of water changes (eg 40-45%), but I agree that finding the source is your very important first step.

Eliminate them at the source if possible. Insure all mechanical filtration is clean and properly functioning. Avoid over feeding. Insure stocking levels are over loading your filtration. Increase frequency of small percentage water changes. If possiblee develop a refugium with macro algaes to export excess nutrients. Lots of tools can be used to control/lower nitrates...but its often best to prevent them from raising in the first place.

7 fish in a 2 month old tank is a lot, and certainly at least part of the problem. Can you get some of them out, and transfer them to another of your tanks? You'd probably be ok with leaving the chromises in, but such a young tank isn't going to be able to handle the bioload of so many fish and all the food, even if you're not overfeeding them.

I couldn't agree more....Your going a little (lot) too fast. Plus your pretty much skimmerless:D JK, but I've used a Reef Devil skimmer. I know what they can do, or should I say what they don't do.
You know, I just read your Cheato thread. I'm kind of lost here. That thread said you have a 180 gal tank with a 100 gal fuge:confused: You signature says 80/80/29 or something like that. If your running a Reef Devil on a 180 your skimmerless for sure.

Ok where do i start,
We can start here. When i started in tis site i had 80/80/29, then i sold the two 80's. One went that other stuff (freshwater) the other went salt water. I sold the saltwater guy the tank with everything (light, tank, sump, rock, sand, water.) and set it up for him in his house. That's where were having the nitrate problem and am seeking some help. As for what i have now, I still have the 29gal, And now i have a 180gal AGA with appox 80 to 100 gal reefsump (48x24x20).Don't know exactly how many gallons is that. Refuge is 24x12x20 and that what i'm trying to get the chaeto for and would like to know how much i need for this system. i have a 3" sandbed and 30lbs of rock in fuge. Just for everyone info,
These are the items i'm using to run my 180AGA With 2 Mega Overflos
Hamilton Tech 3 250 HQI 4 96 PC
Hamilton Tech 2 55watt PC For Fuge
MRC MR5 Protein skimmer
MRC CR6 Calcium reactor
Mrc Mediun Nilsen reactor
MRC Fluidized Chamber running carbon
4Way Oceansmotions
Tunze 6000 with controller
Litermeter3 doser
Pumps
Iwalki 70,55,20
Sequence Flo Hammerhead
Hope i answer your question, I know i will have to update my profile when i get a chance. My system has 1 1/2 months running . Will post some pics today when i get home. Thanx to golfish and everyone else who has replied

Water changes..It should settle down soon. I've seen that happen after moving a tank, I just assumed it was the sand bed. Everything settled back to normal after a while.
