nitrates going down?

my nitrates seem to be dropping. they went from about 40 to about 20 in about a week. does this mean im developing good bacteria to get rid of them? i figured thats what it was but i dont have a DSB, its only 2 inches deep. anyone know why it would drop? i have an eclipse hood so it has a biowheel. any ideas would help.

2" is not deep enough to host the bacteria to process nitrates, but the sand definately helps. With routine water changes and proper feeding, you should see a slight decline of your nitrates. Lower nitrates is a good thing. Continue doing what you are doing! --Bob

i think i was overfeeding to begin with. now ive caught myself and fixed that. i bet that has somehting to do with it too. thanks a bunch.

i also have 20 lbs of LR so that cant hurt.
