NItrates oh MY!

Just moved into a new house where my water supply now comes from an underground well. I tested the water and the nitrates come up the harmful level for the aquarium(levels are safe for human consumption). This is really a bummer, I'm considering an R/O unit but I was wondering if there is any other alternative. My tank is only ten gallons and i would hate ro make an investment in an R/O unit.
Any Suggestions?

You could buy RO water from Walmart.

well, after exploring my oprions, I've decdied that is would be most economical and less troublesome to pack up my ten gallon and go with a freshwater set-up. Thank you all for your support these past couple of years.

Hmmm, you know that Nitrates are bad for freshwater fish also, right?

I purchased an RO/DI unit when I set up my 200gal tank, and regretted not getting it sooner. Especially considering I had set up a 100-gal and 90-gal running back and forth to the Glacier water dispenser at my local grocery store. Beyond the tank use, I have VERY much enjoyed the water I get from it. Cooking, drinking, it justs tastes FAR batter than the regular tap water here. Granted, my tap water is from a city source from a small town. Not much chemical pollution other than chlorines and chloramines, but very hard water. I would consider buying an RO/DI unit, even if you were not going to set up any aquariums at all. Drinking high-nitrate water isn't particularly healthy for yourself, either.

Thanks, both for the reply. The nitrates will not be as detrimental to the freshwater fish as they are to the corals. And as far as my drinking water, the nitrates are in an acceptable level for human consumption. I suppose that aquatic life is more sensitive.
