nitrates

i have been doing 25 gallon water changes with ro water every 2 weeks.i still cannot seem to get my nitrates to 0-5.they are at 12-20 all the time.in my tank i have 2 emperor 400 piggy back filters,and a jebo 180 skimmer.could this have something to do with it??? please advise.

Could be a water flow issue. When I first set up mine I couldn't get the nitrates down because my water wasn't turning over enough. This is just from my experience, I don't have much yet but maybe this will help.

Try using ro water. Test the nitrates after u mix. It may be a salt issue.Some salts have nitrates in them even though they say they dont they do. Also how many times a day do u feed and what do u feed. Is your skimmer working properly. Ive had the same problem before its easy to fix.
