more than likely no, but it'll make your water clearer lol.

In itself, no, but it will reduce the organics (that is if the nitrates are a result of excess organics and not coming from water changes or other source) that are breaking down and causing the nitrates and in the end, as the system itself breaks the existing nitrates down into phosphates, help lower the nitrates.
