No Electricity how long till death?

That was the question I had this morning when I woke up. " How long till death with no electricity" I had a hunch this morning.
So I moved on October 1st 2008 and I still have my old place with the reef tank setup in it. I have a 12 Gallon Nano Cube that is my main display tank which I moved the day I moved. But the 30 Gallon reef tank was left behind because of not having time or transportation or help of someone else. Well I visit the house every couple of days to feed and maintain. I got busy unpacking and forgot to go for a few days. So I decided to go Yesterday the 20th to feed, then I was going to move the tank to new house when I got back from South Carolina in One week. Anyways I arrived at my old house and noticed the lights were not on and I thought to myself maybe the timer has messed up and the lights were already off. So I go inside of the house and flip the light nothing happens I go in the kitchen flip the light nothing again. I rush over to the tank and notice the clown fish is breathing very heavliy and the anemone is al small and not looking good. I do not have a light and it is dark so I take my cell phone and hold it up to the tank,
all of the mushrooms are slim the toadstool is limp, the water is murky not very visable. I freak out and have no Idea what to do so I call the electric company to have the power turned back on and find out why it has been turned off. So I get the women on the phone from electricc company and she says we have a shut of date for for the 15th of october, Emetiatly I fly off the hook screaming at her telling her she needs to get the electric turned back on. She replys you will have to call back in the morning ther is nothing I can do.
At this point my mind is racing I new I should have just sold the tank to this person that tried to buy it but lowballed me. Then I thought its my wifes fault for telling me I could not bring it to the new house then changed her mind to days ago and told me it was fine to bring the tank. So being pissed of I slammed the door and locked up the house . I proceded to leave. I get in the car and start to drive in the direction of my new house which is 45 minutes away. Then I get this feeling that I could save the tank. I excelarate going 85 mph get off the next exit and go to the pet store run inside and buy a 3 pack of the filters to my hangon filter box, Pay and run out the door. I get back in the car and my wife says what are you doing!!! What am I doing I am doing what I should have done October 1st, MOVE THE F'IN TANK TO THE NEW HOUSE!!!! I drive across the street to the Lowes home Improvement store and buy 5 5 Gallon bucks and 4 fooy hose. I run to the front counter and there is some idiot trying to pay with a check , A CHECK!!!! A CHECK ARE YOU KIDDING ME, who pays with checks and of course there are issues with the check going through and I am getting very impatent and just want to pay and go. Finly they get the check to go through and I pay with a DEBIT CARD the new way to pay for things. I run to the car launch the buckets in the back seat and speed to my house jump out and proceded to dismantal the tank making sure I added oxygen to the water by letting it fall about 3 feet from the top of the bucket to trap oxygen in the water the dumped it back and forth from bucket to bucket to inhance the oxygen level. I netted the fish and anemone placed them in the bucket and proceaded to unload the tank moving all of the rocks into buckets and saved 15 gallons of water to be placed back in the tank to not completely shock everything and I would not have to start from scratch. Well all has been unloaded and I move the empty tank and all equipment up and drive home, the new place. I get there and set the tank up place all of the rock in all of the old water 15 gallons and then 12 gallons of newly mixed water. I then move all of the fish into the tank after 30 minutes of letting the filter to run and generate oxygen. I tested the water and salinity was normal but the nitrate was high. I left the lights off last night and turned just the blue lights on this mornig and placed the tank back on its timer schedule while I am gone. I hope the tank is going to be okay. Well I am happy know I have my tank safe and sound at the new place. This has been a terribale week.

Wow.
I'm glad the tank sounds like it's going to make it! Sounds like you went through a lot of stress though.
When I first read it through, all I could think of was "Decaf, dude.......Decaf." But I bet I'd be just as stressed if I was in that situation. Hope you've had time to cool off!

Whoa, you had a really awful day. I'll bet the adrenaline is still pumping through your body.
Please update over the next few days and let us know how the fish and corals are doing.

MY favorite part : " CHECK ! WHO PAYS WITH A CHECK !" everytime I'm in line and someone pulls out a check I think the same thing. What about the people who pay with a check in the express lines !?!

The nitrates are from stiring everything up. I would do another 5g water change in a couple of days. Then another 10g in about another week or so.
