I have a bak pak 2 in a 46 gal tank I only have two fish and it is going through the cylcling process. My problem is there is no foam in the collection cup but there is brown algea growing with green hairs on the live sand and some of the decorations. Does anyone know anything about these skimmers?

Did you just recently get it? Don't worry its going through its cycling process like you stated. Theres not suppose to be foam untill about 2-3 weeks after you get it possibly a month.

I have had the bak pak running for about a month and the water is not even rising into the cup at all. Also there are micro bubbles going right through the bio bale and back into the tank which I heard is not good I can't get it right! Thanks for your help!

I have a bak pak 2 also. Bio Bale does more bad that good. It can be a nice place for nitrates and phosphates to build up and then get leached back into the tank. I suggest taking the bio bale out. When you do this though it will cause more microbubbles to enter your tank you can either buy a bubble trap like i did and completely stopped the bubbles or stick a piece of foam up the output tube and you should be fine. I recently put the bak pak on about a week ago. Its just starting to produce some foam. Also for it to be more effective you might want to upgrade the pump if its only the rio 600 to a maxijet 1200. Im going to be upgrading mysell soon it should make a difference in foam production.

Thanks but why would I take the bio-bale out isn't it there for a reason? Why would they give it to you in the first place?

It will just cause problems in the long run. Nitrates and phosphates will build up and if u do keep up on the maintainence on it everything will leach back into the tank causing ur tank to crash. If you look at the reef ready models they do not come with bio bale. You would be better off putting cheato in there and a mini light to use a skimmer/refugium. This is all IMO you can decide what you want to do but just keep up on maintaining that bio bale and replace it oftern so problems wont arise in your tank.
