No LR and LS cycle?

I have a 29gal. tank with an Eclipse3 hood and an undergravel filter. What is the best way to cycle it without adding any live rock and live sand? I'll start up my set up tomorrow.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

I don't know if this is true but I've been told to just drop a piece of regular grocery store shrimp into the tank and it will start cycling.

Once you start to add bacteria via damsel, shrimp or what ever you choose it would start. Add some cycle to your water it "good" bacteria. A lot of people frown on the UGF, do a search on alternate filteration systems, compare then decide what's best for you.

i agree, forget the ugf, and i must also disagree, i don't like cycle the product(matter of preference, based on prior experience)but others do like it,a nd here is an article for you to read on starting up

I'd use a few shrimp from the grocery store or a damsel or two.

Drop one shrimp in the tank and leave it for about 2 weeks. It will look very nasty after two days, but just sit tight. Don't put a demsel in there, that is cruel.

Heres what I done on my new tank (4 yrs.ago) Buy 300.00 dollars worth of live stock, through them in the new tank, admire them for about 2 days, then they're all gone!! Buy a box of shrimp at the local food store $1.99, put one piece in the tank , wait about 2 weeks , looks nasty, be patient, be patient, be patient, be patient, after about 90 days check water , if everything ok, wait 1 more week then add a fish or 2, be patient, check water, wait another week, I have a 125 gln, only 7 fish in it, be patient, they are around 2-3" , be patient, in other words be patient!! Buy the shrimp for $1.99 and be patient!! It's well worth the time!! I might add another fish in 6 or 7 mos.

I used damsels to start my cycle. 90 days.... I don't have the patience for, my tank cycled in about 30 days. I started using cycle and an UGF. I discontinued use of the cycle and disconnected the UGF, and added about 25 lbs. of l/r. after i stopped using the cycle and added the l/r my cycle began to start the way it should have from the beginning. IMO i wouldn't use cycle or any other additves (and I like the damsel method better...shhh....)
