no sand

I am starting to see a lot of tanks with no sand in the bottom I was wondering is it just for the looks? I personal like having sand. Or is there a reason for not wanting it there?

personally i think they look dumb. one less thing to keep clean though.

traps detritus and blows around, thats about the only two reasons for not wanting it. without it you can keep the flow high enough to keep detritus suspended. mostly a fancy of sps keepers.
