I bought 50 lbs. of live rock from this site and 25 lbs. of live sand and put it in over a week ago and there is no sign of life at all.

I have a 20 gallon long and It took about 2 1/2 to 3 weeks to see any signs of life on my rock and I still haven't seen anything in my ls as of yet.Look really closly at the rock and you might be able to see little animals on your rock.I have little corals growing on some of mine that I didn't know where even there.Best of luck to you on your reef.

You may not see all the stuff people describe on the gulf rock....but what you do have is mighty fine rock. You will be happier with it in the long run, IMHO. I ordered fiji rock because I wanted control of what goes in my tank. I knew I didn't want a mantis shrimp for sure. And some of the other stuff they get free is almost as bad.
As time goes along you will see some things you had not seen before on your LR even though you don't see it now.
Always remember...there is no such thing as a free lunch....it always costs you something!

I really didn't see any life on my rock when I 1st put it in. Took a few weeks. Also alot of the life is nocturnal. Wait an hour or so after lights out then use a flashlight with a red lens to look into the tank. You'd be suprised at what goes on in your tank after the lights go out.

be patient these things take some time. I have a reef tank that hasn't had any new rock for over 8 months and just this week discovered a new hitchhiker hiding in one of the holes in the LR. Looks like a bi-valve of some sort shaped like a tiny mussell shell. Some of the hitchhikers are very small and need time to grow and get large enough to be viewed.

Thanks for the help. I guess I am being a little impatient. I know, I know, the key to a good reef is patience. :D <img src="graemlins//urrr.gif" border="0" alt="[urrr]" />

With good water, few fish, and time you will start to see life. When I first started, I didn't see anything for a couple of weeks. One night I shined a flashlight into it and was amazed at all the little critters. That was 8 months ago. It's been 3 months since I've added any new rock, and a couple of weeks ago I found a new critter.

Don't know what kind he is or if he's bad, but I guess time will tell.
Just be patient and you'll find critters too.
