Nocturnal Clown fish

Are clown fish nocturnal? Im happy to report he has made a full recovery. He is swimming happy healthy no spots no damage no nothing.. The new difference though is he only comes out at night. Why do you think that is? Someone posted that fish may feel like danger is around with no other fish. Do you think he thinks its safer at night or something? Im thinking about getting him a friend in a week if he is still doing well. Any thoughts.

Not sure on the answer for this one. I have two Clarkii clowns and they are the opposite. They actually lay at the bottom at night...my one actually lays on her side...at first I thought maybe something wasn't right, but she has been doing this since I bought her months ago (and the previous owner said she did it while he had her too! lol) Good luck, and glad he made a full recovery!

Mine always slept in their hammer coral at night and were only active during the day.

My clown is only active during the day as well. At night he goes in his corner, away from my anemone, and barely moves as he sleeps.

my clown is active in the day but at night he is on the top of the tank on his side i think he is dead everymorning b4 the light come on.

I have 3 different types of clows and they all are active during the day however my maroon will change his spot a few times a night could that be what's going on with yours? Does it come out when you feed while the lights are on?

Well, I have a couple questions for you, since my clowns used to swim around at night.
Is the area around the tank active at night? Ex. Is it near a television or radio that you're watching/listening to once the tank lights go out?
What is the size of your tank?
When do you feed your fish?
I ask this because my clowns were more active at night when I was feeding them at night. I worked late then, so I wouldn't get home 'til after 9, long after the lights were out, but they became accustom to this and would sleep later into the morning and then be up at night when I fed them, and while I watched tv. Once I turned the tv and lights off in the room, then they'd go into their anemone for the night (around 2am).
I don't know if it was the tv or the feeding schedule, or both, just a thought for you.

No activity around the tank at night. It is in the living room. Our family room is were most of the activity is.
Tank is 40 gallons
I feed the fish all the time. Day and night.
Mr. Fishy is back to hanging out on his power head, even though he almost lost his life to it last week. Im wondering if he just didnt learn his lesson and is sleeping on top of it again.

Hmmm. I don't know. Clownfish do as they please. Mine are little devils. He might just still be adjusting.

If you covered the intake, he may just have taken to "hosting" the powerhead...I know that my wife's two were all over the powerhead in the corner of the tank...and would defend it when their tankmates came close.
Glad to hear that the little fella made it through. I think that getting another fish might help, as I have no idea what mine would have done if he didn't have my half black angel to pal around with.
