hi, from the stuff i have read, i feel lucky to have my first tank doing so well after only a couple of months, i have about 35 lbs of live rock in my 40G tank. coralline algae is growing well, i have 7 fish, and a skunk cleaner shrimp. and my acctual question is i have what looks to be a single orange polyp, that is very small like the size of this
, with a small stem. i also have a small red ball growing with a white center, i acctually observed it open and the small white center was actually a lot of tiny white dots, it to is about the size of a smiley face i did not purchase these, they just appeared in my tank, any help would be appreciated! thank you! i have tried to attach a couple photos, but i am not sure if i did it right.... this is my first post! sorry!

yes, but very small still like i said, and i dont know if it eats but i know it retracts and opens! well, i will assume that you are talking about marquette MI, and it is nice today but it has been snowing for the last week and a half we have had about 10 inches typical! haha and thanks for the pic is this normal for these to just appear on live rock!?!?and if so should i start feeding it or adding something to the water or just let it be for a while and let it get bigger??? THANKS AGAIN

Yah, I'm orig from Mt Morris. outside Flint.
Try giving it a mysis or just a piece of flake. They usually just catch what they can when you feed. It should spread for ya and then you'll want to start trading them.

It may also be a feather duster. hard to tell from the pictures.
I lived in upper MI almost my whole life. My sister is going to NMU now. Hows the hockey team doing?

well the hocky team is always doing well, i too am an nmu student, glad to know i have some hometown help on this thread..... thanks for the info anything else would be helpful other than water changes what else would help remove green hair algae..... water changes are doing the trick but it is a long battle that is slowly being won.... i just bought a lawnmower blenny and 5 turbo snails, and 5 hermit crabs, a week ago and they seem to be helping, but any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

how long are your lights on? I had the same problem until i did more water changes and cut my lighting down to about 8 hrs a day. A u.v. sterilizer may also help.

ya i used to have them on 12 to 14 hours a day, but i cut it back about 2 weeks ago to a total of 8 hours, and four in the morning with feeding, and four in the evening with feeding, i am running at 3 watts per gallon and was thinking about going up to four but i will need some new lights, but these seem to be doing ok, i have actually just started looking into those in the last week with all the research i have been doing, but every little bit helps, like i said in the begining, with the few problems i have had i feel lucky for a first timer compared to some of the horror stories i have been reading on this forum, but i did do a lot of research prior! thanks for the info!
