Not wanting to tear down the tank

I bought this sand that is called Marine Sand. It was it a bag and was dry. I've had my tank now for about a month and a half maybe. Well I was reading someposts and some one said something about silca sand promoting brown algae. I've just started to get TONS of brown algae. Does anyone think that the sand is causing the problem, AND if I have to tear my tank down!!!
ALSO
About a week ago I said to myself to heck with this!!! (because I bought a clown fish and put it in my tank and it was gasping for air at the bottom of the tank after 1 day in the tank, so I put it in my sisters tank and it's freaking happy in her. I felt like the fish didn't like me.. BUT anyways) So I ignore my tank for about a week, I only have a crab in there. (got a margarita snail today) Tonite I was looking in after I scraped the brown algae off and there is something starting to grow on my rock right next to my zoos. It looks almost like a little anenome. but it's a clearish brown. it's about half inch wide X half inch tall. anyone know what it might be??

that little anemone thing you see growing in your tank sounds like aptaisia to me. if it is you will want to get rid of it. try doing a search on here for aptaisia se eif you can find some pictures to identify it.
