Can you tell the type of star just by having a good pic of his leg?? I got a brittle hitcher on a new coral and all I ever see are his legs. I have never seen his "body", curious to know what he is, so if you can tell, I'll go get a pic... Awe heck, I'll get one anyway...
Gimme a minute. :)

Awe forget it, he's all curled up in the coral now. He hasn't left it since I got him, like a week or two ago. He moves, so I know he's alive, but as soon as he gets closer to the edge, I'll get a pic. :)

WELLLLLLLLL,
Give it a go. Sometimes I can get it, sometimes I can get it in the ballpark, and sometimes I just scratch my head and watch the game. I don't really know what that means other than I'd like to see a picture :D

Alright, lemme start with the excuses... The corals in the back of the tank... This star is very tiny... hard to get a clear shot... The sun was in my eyes... wait that's my other excuse... Anyway, this is the best I could get...

Understand :D No worries there. As you might imagine, it is a bit tough for me to tell. Many coral and sponge associated brittlestars with very long spines tend to be in the genus Ophiomastix. These are frequently filter feeders, but may consum mucous and particles that get trapped on the surface of the corals. They do not appear to cause any harm to the coral polyps themselves.

are you sure that isnt a bristle worm? That arm looks mighty long, and if you have never seen the body.....
Just a thought

Yeah, I am sure. I blew up that pic a pretty good bit so it distorted the pic a little, but it's definately a star. I can see the legs, and I can see where they attach...from the side. But I can't get a good look at the "disk" and there's no way I can get a pic of it.
