i was talking to fl.ric the other day as i asked him about changing out the lights on my frag tank...currently i have a 36" 2x150w 14k sunpod on my 40g breeder frag tank and i asked him about changing it out for the nova extreme pro with 6x39w 254w (3x10k & 3x 460nm) with individual reflectors ...so i thought i would get some other opinions as well....what are your thoughts??

wat kind of frags. i have a 6 bulb retro on my 40 frag with all sps and i cant keep more than one bulb in the 10k range without washing out my colors. i currently have 3 blue plus and 3 super actinics, a little to blue for me so i have another blue plus comin and whatever the ati 12k bulb. they come in tomorrow.

the icecap reflectors are supposed to be the best with ati being the same. the current and tek are quite as intense. the blue plus are in the 14K range, so they have some light in the red and yellow range of the spectrum but still have a pretty comparable par value to 10k bulbs. the stock current actinic bulbs are pretty good but the 10k are barely better in par numbers. the blue plus are a little less blue than currents actinic. the stock bulbs would be fine for your setup but you could easily overpower your frags with bulb upgrades.
these are tested numbers for bulb comparison. they are by no means wat your fixture will produce but they allow for bulb to bulb comparison

yes they are , but with a specific ballast, and i think he didnt use any reflector and tested them an inch away. like i said above the numbers are only meant to compare the bulbs themselves
