well my little .5 gallon nano has a half a pound of LS, about a half a pount of LR (i got all of this from my 10 gallon bedroom display tank). and i bought some nick nack corals from my LFS which cost me about $15 monies. its been set up for a long time but i lost track of it and it bloomed algea. so im gonna clean it up and start new. its a neat little idea. im going to try to put a neon goby in. i agve my LFS this idea and they did it before i could  . good luck. maybe we can start a nano trend with this.

I swear next pay check I'm getting one (this one is already spent of car insurance and gf's prom *sigh*). Did you buy the Red Sea Candy AquaVase Combo or the Red Sea Deco Art Moon Glow Aquarium Kit??
What do you use for alk/calc additives? Do you feed phytoplakton at all or not bother because of size/stability of the tank.
I'm not worried about heat living in AZ...we've got plenty to go around. :nervous: I might need to invest in a small fan if someone has a recommendation for me.
I really want a 10g or 20g but have other more important/responsible things to tend to right now, so I feel this is the best option. I can buy a 1/2 lb of LS and a little less than 1lb of LR from my LFS. Also that have a "frag tank" where I can buy tiny pieces of coral for pretty cheap.
Let me know how the Neon Goby works. I'd be interested in following your lead on that if you have success. Is it working out for your LFS?

actually. theres a 13 watt bulb that looks to be similar size to the standard bulb in a local pet store by me. i would try it. bring the bulb with you when you go to the store. maybe even the whole light fixture.

I was reading somewhere that can't be mentioned here that someone replaced it w/ a 13W bulb. Didn't really say much about the turn out. I'm trying to find out how it was done. When I find out I'll let you know. Email me if you want to see it for yourself. Nudibranch

I've been talking to someone who says they have a 13W in the same type nano we're talking about. I asked about the !#W and he said "i cut down the hieght of the light stand and convert it to a 13 watt with 50/50 bulb". It sounds to me like it will fit fine.
Also I saw a picture of another person w/ this tank and they literally took about 4" off the stem of the light. it got it a lot closer to the tank and allows for it to lay flat across the top.

Well, FINALLY I got a response. He put ina 13W ballast and cut a small hole to allow fot the bulb. :nope: It's not as easy as I was hoping. I bet is less $$ to just buy a second fixture. if only we could find a 7W actinic...unless maybe you could fit a 9W in there...hmmm...then do a Whatever K/Actinic mix???

Thanx for the info, i'm wondering about the black light...Any ideas if it will function similar to an Actinic? of do you think we could cram a 9W Mini-Might in there? Any ideas if the ballast would support it? I'll try to go to ***** on Thursday to see if the 9W will fit and I'll see what I can do to findout if the ballast will support it.

Well, I went to ***** and measured. The mini-might 9W wont fit unless you cut the end to allow for the rest of the bulb. A black light wouldn't be any good would it?

Nudibrach-
I think you're referring to Aquatouch up on Cactus about frags. If so, check out that TINY little tank they've got on the counter there. The light on that thing is really cheap, and no hassle- it would suit you best for that small tank, but really I think you'd be better off with a 2.5 minibow. I was amazed at that little thing at Aquatouch though... Aslo, I'm moving to Scottsdale this month after I graduate (and my girlfriend is moving to phoenix in July), so if you ever need help making minimum orders from the internet, keep us in mind. We both produce various frags (GSP, Xenia, Zoo's, Mushrooms, Euphylia) pretty regularly too, if you're interested. Later.

Stevebk - hey man I'm always interested in meeting local reefers. Let me know when you move down here. K?
Anyone's opinion on using a black light w/ the 7200K? I'm thinking bad idea (not sure why just do).
*Edit*:

Stevebk - Yeah I was talking about AquaTouch. I used to be an employee there about 2 yrs ago this June. It's a terrific place for livestock (dry goods too), esp since they QT all their fish (although I would still recommend QTing them yourself just cuz I'm nit-picky like that).

oooooo, I saw the 13W "retro-fit" Doesn't look as hard as I imagined. I can't post the link here though. Although you probably can do the same thing with a 9W w/o getting a new ballast, but you'd need 2 of them (for actinic). The 13W might be the best option plus you can get a 50/50 bulb.
