i have recently seen a lot of nudis for sale at local LFS. they are pretty cheap, and while i know that they are specialized eaters, i know that a lot of hobbiests have probably bought them because they are pretty and interesting, and had them die. So i want to make a list of Nudis and what they eat, their tank requirements, approximate survival rate, and pictures if possible. i will be reading up on them and adding to this thread, if you have any info please add.
thanks.

There is the Sea Hare, it eats hair algae I believe and they get up to a surprisingly 10+ inches. They have a very good survival rate and are pretty hardy and are so ugly there cute! LOL.
Here is a picture of one.

I can only comment on survival rate as I have not been able to kep the two I tried alive longer than 2 weeks. I have large tanks with sump/refugiums.

berghia nudibranch

commonly kept for eating aiptasia, they will die off if none is available. they need pristine conditions, and are not toxic when they die. havent found much on adult size, but i think they stay pretty small.

Then there is also a Lettuce Nudibranch, it also eats hair algae I believe and I think they get up to and inch or 2. I heard that they are pretty easy to care for and are pretty hardy. Here is a picture of one, they look very cool.

I've had berghia in the past, but you need a lot of them in order for them to do much aiptasia cleaning. They usually get picked off or lost in larger systems though.

Yeah, lol 10+ inches is HUGE! I think they weigh up to about 5-7 pounds when full grown.

Yep, forgot about my Berghias. I do have a couple that have lasted 4-5 months in the refugium where I had (they did a good job) problem with aptasia. Largest one I have seen is 1".
Nudis I lost were the beautiful Black with fluorescent blue streaks. Had them early on in this hobby. Might do better now, but am unwilling to try unless
posts to this thread indicate my experience was an abberation.

I had a lettuce that would eat hair algae like crazy!! It had like 20+ babies and then I moved tanks and could find any of them

Those were more than likely Blue Velvet Nudibranchs. Mine lasted 3 days with tons of flatworms to eat. I'm not sure if my coral banded shrimps got to them or what. This in a 90 gallon SPS/LPS dominate BB tank.

Oh yeah, there is also the Orange Caribbean Nudibranch. It also eats algae and I think someone on this board has one of these. They are also pretty hardy and don't get very large. Here is a picture.

Alix..Good thread........What are people's experiences with them in a reef tank. I have only had in a refugium. I was worried that the flow required with the reef and/or predation would wipe these guys out fast in a DT.
