i am thinking about getting an octopus 100f or 300f skimmer for my 36 gallon tank. the only problem is that my tank is a bowfront and there is that trim support beam in the middle of my tank...prohibiting certain types of equipment from being placed there...and i wanted to know if these skimmers have an entire rim that has to go in the edge of my tank (which i cannot have) or not (which i can have). also what size do you recommend. i was thinking the bigger the better and the 100f and 300f has the filter too so i have more filtration too. thanks

to clear things up here is what i meant...the black bracket things (on the first pic i found) need to be far enough apart to that they would have clearance from the trim beam thing (in the second pic)...does anybody own the 100f or 300f? and if u do if you could please measure the distance so i could see if it would fit..thanks

I've got the octopus 100f, it measures 13" across total. about 11.5" across between the two gray pipes (inlet and outlet) and each pipe is about 1.5" outside diameter.
hope that helps.

that pic might be the 300f, because mine has only one black clamp right in the middle of the 2 gray pipes. the distance between the pipes is about 8-7/8".
you can kind of see it in the pic, the clamp is a triangular piece that slides in and out vertically. that clamp just holds the unit closer to the tank. due to fitment issues i removed mine, its kinda hard to explain without pics, unless you think they're necessary...
