I just got an octopus. Do you have any suggestions or tips on keeping an octopus. I know that they can get out of almost anything bigger than thier beak. Thanks for any tips You can give.

Not only that, but yes, they can use their tentacles, and move stuff. You may have the thing sealed, but it just possibly could push the top off or over, and slip right out. Wat kinda octo do u have? I think 125 gallons should be plenty for ANY octo. that is available to the aquarium trade that is...

First of all, tell me it isn't a blue ring. If it is, I'll gladly take your equipment off your hands if you die. That being said, a 125 will be plenty big, but you'll need a heavy cover that seals off the entire top. An octo can easily lift a light cover, and can fit through any space it's beak can. They are also VERY VERY smart, perhaps some of the smartest animals in the whole ocean. It is not some dumb fish, and it will try use it's brain power to explore ANYwhere and ANYthing. Also have carbon on hand (unless you already run it) just in case something spooks it and it inks. You'll wanna run that carbon to get the ink out. Keep your water quality good - although they are relatively hardy compared to some hard to keep species of fish, they are still not a damsel. One of the hardest parts of keeping an octo is preventing it from escaping. :) Get some pics, if you can. :)

ok, I keep him in a tank within a tank. he is in about a 15g tank inside a 55g tank. there is a secure lid on it that allows water movement, he has not been able to escape so far and he has been trying. My levels are perfect and nitrates are 0. I have tried to feed him peel and eat shrimp, goldfish but he doesnt seem to want it. Any suggestions on what to feed him and how offten? I dont know how you measure an octopus but from tenticle to tenticle he is about 10 in. his body is about 2 in. he is very active for about 2 hours a day. Otherwise he hides in the rocks or at the corner at the top. Thanks for any info.
