odd clown behavior

My gf has a juvenile gold stripe maroon who has turned into a digger. Has anyone heard of this behavior before? She goes into a specific corner in the tank and fans out the fan in a blur of fins real quick. So far she has excavated a 3 inch wide pit about an inch deep in the sand, what gives?

It's not odd behavior for these fish. Many clowns do it, as well as other damsels. My old maroon did the same thing. Annoying but typical.
