odyssea t5 pro light fixture

im sorry if this is a repeat but im new to fish lighting.
i know these things has bad reviews do to the ballast etc, but how decent are these light fixtures?and are these sadfe since they are not UL approved? im planning just to get one for now, until i get" serious"

Like most Chinese made goods, a few years ago they were pretty terrible. In fact their old metal halides were a fire hazard, but now they aren't that bad. The big problem is the bulbs, the colors are way off. If you factor the cost of new bulbs + the Odyssea fixture, you aren't really saving anything.
If you're buying off e-bay anyway, look for NovaExtreme fixtures. They're sold directly from CurrentUSA, usually refurbs. Some decent deals there, and a step up in quality.
