What is an appropriate gift for an office pass the hat, to send flowers or gift for someone whose father died suddenly?

no the office is passing the hat for donations and I'm wondering what is an appropriate dollar amount for me to put in.

How many people in the office? I know that sounds cheesy .. It boils down to how much you can afford, and how well do you like the person. If it's a small group I'd say 10 or 20 bucks. A large group 5 or 10 bucks.

In an office situation, whoever is in charge of purchasing the gift should be letting you know what's appropriate on some level.
It's then up to you to decide whether your contribution is adequate. As reef stated, however, 5-10 bucks should be way more than enough.

Lets say you were going to do flowers, a nice spread is maybe 75.00 without getting stupid extravagant, maybe another 10 for delivery so do the math.

If you know the person, I nice talk to tell them how sorry you are for their loss goes a long way. A card would be nice too. For the most part, just letting the person know that you are aware of their loss and care enough to say something to them means a lot.

Some of these jokers are saying they're gonna do 100 bucks. (they have more money than brains) Which realistically I could spare. But I was thinking in the 10-20 buck range. ( you also gotta understand we're in the oil business so a 150 dollar gift basket or something is something we see EVERY day)
