OH NO!!! Tank leak!

So I wake up this morning and hear this gurgling noise coming from the basement. I run to the basement and my 38gal QT had only like a 1/4 water left on the bottom and the filter pump was gurgling running dry. CRAP!!! I check it out, no cracks. The leak was coming from the bottom left corner, I'm guessing from the sylicone connection. Weird since it was only 3+ months old. So i've spent the whole morning cleaning up the water and emptying the tank.
Oh yeah, I had a Naso Tang in there, I was treating for ich for a friend. Luckily the treatment was over and I had just finished raising the salinity. So I had to put the tang in my main tank quickly.
Anyone ever hear of a new tank like that leaking without any cracks? Have no idea what happened. It was fine for the 2+ months it was running.

sorry to hear that. no, never heard of a brand new tank having a seal leak - I wonder if the seal was somehow damaged during shipping or something.
what brand tank? might be under warranty. Aqueon (bought AGA) has lifetime on all tanks over 55gal. remember - I got my 180 AGA replaced by aqueon at no cost.

Now that it's dry, I was looking inside the tank and I think it's my fault it leaked. At first, I was going to use this as a sump for my 150gal. So I put some plexiglass baffles inside, then I decided to turn it into a QT and pulled out the baffles. Well, when I pulled them out, it looked like I pulled out some of the sylicone on the bottom of the tank. I'm suprised it didn't leak right away.

maybe your fault, maybe not.... the silicone in the corners do little for the integrity of the tank. The area b/w the two pieces of glass is what matters most. The corners do help protect this area, but as long as the area in between does not have an area of weakness - unlikely to have a leak.
