Hmmm, is he swimming okay???? Have you fed yet today??? If he does eat and swim alright. I'll just let him heal up in your display. If other fish start picking on him, then move it to your hospital/QT tank, but trying to net him would add stress to him IMO. Is your powerhead too strong in some way??? I've never used the 802 before, but a perfectly healthy fish shouldn't be stuck in the powerhead.

Well he is still swimming around but he is swimming around alot slower than he normally does... I have the power head turned off for now... What can I do to make it so this doesnt happen again..
I think he is doing alright... Sort of :(

They have the little blue bio balls that you can stick on the end of the suction part..You take off the screen part and add the ball

I guess you could get him a little "turtle neck" sweater...or maybe some "yellow" coverup makeup...:D

Well, yea, the bio ball works. You could also try a type of sponge that will also act as a prefilter. That should work. At least they wont get hurt if they get stuck.

What do you feed him and how old is your tank? Besides the red mark he doesn't look very healthy. the rock looks very void of algae which means he may be suffering from malnutrition and is slowly wasting away.

The tank is only a few months old..
He gets a mix of a bunch of walmart foods mixed up.
Ummm blood worms,Flakes, and theres something else in there 2
I know that hes supposed to eat macros.
I was hoping it would eat the algea that you can see growing on the farthest right rock.
Thats about all it gets once a day

go to a fish store and get some good food, different kinds. But for a tang you should always have algae as part of his diet. I've read too many conflicting ideas on including human veggies as part of the diet, but definitely get him some spirulina flakes and some seaweed sheets. Also Zoe is a very good additive for all fish foods. My Yellow Tang eats every thing, but I do notice he nips at the rocks and algea when I haven't fed in a while. On days I'm home all day, I like to feed in small increments, and he won't touch the rocks. But I rarely don't include spirulina in my mix. He hangs with my 2 percs in the middle of the tank, just waiting:jumping: . As far as the injury, that is definitely one nasty hicky. I would have been proud of that in 10th grade:cheer: . Hopefully it won't be to bad, and he'll recover. As with any bruise, he's had an injury to his muscles (at least that's what a human bruise is), and he may not act normally for awhile...don't do anything to stress him out in the next few days would be my advice.......HTH

oh yeah....also...lose the powerhead....way to strong if it can suck up a fish, or arrange rocks around it so no fish can get to it......

No powerhead should suck up a healthy fish. If you can turn the powerhead down then do that. Buy some dried seaweed at the grocery store and feed him about an inch an half square a couple times a day until he recovers. Mix your food with some minced garlic and get some selcon to mix with your food also.

i wodn't worrie to much that happend to my hippo tang in the middle of his body it was pretty bloody and he recovered, the same happend to my cowfish. When i positioned the powerhead a bit closer to the surface the probleam was fixed.

If he got stuck in the PH he probably wasn't very healthy. It may be because of your tank size. 37 gal. is a bit small for a tang. I'd say 55 is the min. tank size. Many people (including myself) have been fooled that by purchasing a small yellow tang you can put it in a small tank, but they really need a LOT of swimming room to stay healthy.
And ditto on all the algae comments.

He does look a bit skinny...My yellow has a bit of a belly on him. Try giving him more veggies to graze on all day. Use a clip so they won't float under a rock and rot on ya.

He appears to be doing alot better he is swimming around alot happier again. The dark red spot now looks like light pink. I think he will pull through it :) Thanks for the ideas on feeding ill make sure I do them. Im going to go to the store and pick up some dried seaweed today.
Thanks Nick
