Husbands are really great inventions. :joy:
Mine hijacked me yesterday on the way to the bookstore - he decided we needed to buy stuff for the guinea pigs, so I bypassed the bookstore (I like to hang out there in the evenings, he comes along to keep me company and read about motorcyles
) and headed for the LPS (they've got fish too). We walked through the doors and he drags me over to the Salt Water section and says "Where are the clown fish?" I point to a tank of clarkiis and he says "OK, buy them." I laughed at him and said, "Don't tease me, that's not nice. Besides, these aren't the kind that will fit in my tank - they get too big for a 12 gallon." He said, ok, let's go down the road to the other pet store and see if they have the ones that WILL fit. I'm tired of looking at those disgusting Pseudopods or whatever they are."
"AMPHIpods," I laughed.
We bustled out of the pet store, my head swimming... "Is he SERIOUS??" I wasn't expecting to get fish for another month or so!! Well, he certainly WAS serious, b/c when we got to the second pet store, he parked himself infront of a tank of perculas and asked "Are these the ones?"
I nodded and smushed my nose up to the glass to look at all the cuteness swimming around in there - but not for long...My man pulled me away and off we went to find a sales associate. Not 10 minutes later I had picked out 2 adorable, active and healthy looking clowns, (which of course, I made sure to feed and confirm that they were indeed eating), and was sitting with them bagged and on my knees on the way home; Windows down 'cuz the Formula1 food we got was quite stankaaay.
I could not believe it. I was totaly unprepared...my saltwater bucket was still full of water aerating for next week's change, I had nowhere to acclimate my little babies!! I placed the bag in the tank to start the temp acclimation and began to frantically run around the house going through the garbage trying desperately to find an empty jug or SOMETHING to put the premixed water in so I could use the bucket to acclimate. Just then my Husband nonchallantly comes out of his computer room and says "Why don't you just acclimate them in something else?"
See...this, ladies and gentelmen, is one of the reasons I married him. 'Cuz he's a genious, that's why.
So I ransacked the kitchen and found what I was looking for - a big tupperware bowl, given to us for our wedding as part of a salad spinner that had as yet never been used. I washed it off with fresh water, and then rubbed it down with diluted vinegar and then rinsed it again. It was the PERFECT size.
At this point, it was time to take the bag out of the tank, so I put it in the bowl, cut the fish out, and started the drip. 2 hours later, there they were, swimming around in my tank, exploring all the nooks and crannies, all the while shaking at each other to establish dominance.
Since it was already pretty late, I decided to leave the lights off for the night and wait 'till this morning to feed them. Didn't seem to matter much to them, they were happily hunting around for pods not 20 minutes after I put them in! I saw them catch three a piece before I went to bed.
Haha, my Man got his wish, after all...and I FINALLY got my fish!!!
