Ok I know I have it, set up a QT. Have my fish in the Qt. Now I'm using Formalite 1. Direction say add to your QT. 2 drops per gallon which I did several hours ago(22gallon qt so I added 44 drops. The more I research I keep reading about bathes which is no problem but I'm going off instructions? Which is the better route to go?

Also, I read on several site that you could treat in 2 buckets. One bucket with the med, the other bucket with tank water to wash the med off then put back in you display tank. My question is how does brooknyella host? My sixline never showed symptons, does he needed to be qt? Should the display tank stay empty for any period of time?

Well all my fish have parished in QT overnight. Even the sixline who showed absouloutly no signs of brook and the fish who showed little symptons. Whic leads me to think the the harshness of the medicine was to much for the fish even going off the instructions. Just for a reference I would do the baths/dips for this desease and stick the fish back in a none medicated qt tank.
Also, does anyone know who long to leave the main tank empty for? I searched here and on the net and theres not to much info just dedicated to brookynella.

Formalydehyde is a deadly toxin and should only be used as a "bath" not as a medication that is put in the QT or the display. What are the ingredents of the product you used? The standard product is formalin, not formalite.

Ok, well the med is Formalit 1 from Aquatronics. Which is 15% Formaldehyde combined with Malachite Green & Copper.
I used as instructed to. 1 drop per gallon if it is freshwater, 2 drops for marine use. Nothing on the instruction says baths. You add to tank, at least with this specific product.
Anyways the point is void now, unfortuanally the fish didn't make it through the night.
My only question now is doing a google(msn or yahoo search didnt bring up anything) search on brooknyelle yeilds about 10 different sites. SWF gave about 4 different topics. Some sites say to do a 2 part bath(one of formalin then fresh tank water) then put them back in your display, some say qt then do baths, some say do both a freshwater dip and a formalin dip then back into a qt.
Nothing mentions on how brooknyella spreads or how long it is you leave your display empty for.

Take a look at TerryB's thread posted in the FAQ Thread above which details formalin baths.
The product you need is formalin with is 37% formaldehyde. Twenty drops per gallon in a bath water. You can use the same water that the fish is in and place it in a deadicated container [bucket or small aquarium, etc.] aerate the water with a small PH or a good strong airstone. Infected fish will bathe in this water for 45 minutes, every other day, for 3-5 days. Toss out the bathe water after each use.

Must be a copy and paste.
I understand you guys get a million of the same questions a day.
My only question is how long does the main display tank stay empty for or does it have to?
All my fish are gone. No need for me to treat anymore..

Its a good plan to leave the tank dorment of fish for about a month following contagious diseases, however, brook is believed to be passed along from fish to fish.
I'd go without for a few wks.
