Ok, I finally grasped the sump/refugium, but

My tank is a 220 drilled DT with a 30"L x 15"W sump, underneath (about 30 gal.) It already has 3 divided chambers, the first is 11" wide, my filter sock, the pump for my protein skimmer and the return hose for my skimmer is housed there, the 2nd which is about 13" wide, just houses the skimmer unit, and the 3rd chamer is 6" wide, and used for my return to the DT, the main pump sits outside of the sump.
If I set up a light I was wondering if I could use the 2nd chamber for a refugium with the skimmer in there, I'd just want it to house some macroalgaes, so it seems like it would be big enough, but I'm not sure.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

If you could move your skimmer it would work... I would not do it with the skimmer in there you will most likey have problems with you pump...

The skimmer's pump is attached via hose/tubing and it is long enough to hang over the baffle, so I have the pump sitting in chamber 1.

I think you would be ok, as long as you are keeping the pump in that first section. I would also make sure that your skimmer return goes back into that first section. What is the flow rate through there? Refugiums require a moderate flow rate (about 10 times the tank size, so that would be 300 gallons) otherwise you can end up with a sand storm, and not to mention your chaeto would look like a tumbleweed during a hurricane haha!
