Ok so i have these 2 b/w clowns, and i setup a qt and put them in it yesterday. i just bought them yesterday as well and i see no signs of anything like ick or whatever but they arent eating. Do you think if i put them in the DT maybe they would get an appetite and eat or should i just leave them in there ? Thanks for letting me know what to do.

Yeah well i was going to do that but it seems like they do not like their qt. I havent seen them eat anything in two days and they just swim in place in one little corner. They are looking very healthy though and i would not want them to starve to death. I got them some ORA Gro Pellets, Frozen Brine Shrimp, Frozen Baby Brine Shrimp, Garlic Extract attractant. Still nothing. They act like they gonna eat the food but then spit it right back out. Water and everything is correct and good order. Well i will try to give them at least a week in there and if i dont see anything i'm putting them in DT. Now if they start eating then maybe i'll leave them in QT. anyone have a good idea how to get them to eat ? Thanks

TBH, it is standard behavior. They will eat when you're not there. you're scaring them :) i have a bicolor blenny in my qt. he hides behind the powerhead 99% of the time. all the food gets eaten though.
don't worry about your fish not eating, they will be fine.

btw, toss the brine. it's no good for them.
make your own food, give them high quality flake food (like sera), or give them formula 1 and 2 frozens, or mysid shrimp.

Is there shelter in the qt? If not, put in a piece of PVC piping and they will feel much more secure.

just throw it out. consider brine shrimp = cotton candy. tastey to eat, but no nutritional value.
if you want to grow your own brine, then baby brine's are ok to feed, but frozen = useless.

ok. I know most of you have thousands and thousands of dollars in your DT, All i have is a 24 gal aquapod. Now i wouldnt want any of my livestock to die but i only have in there right now a Orchid Dottyback,Cleaner shrimp, fire shrimp, and plenty of a cleaning crew. I have these two clowns in the QT for 1 day now but they are not eating. They seem to be healthy. I just dont want them being stressed out in this QT all by themself. Should i put them into DT or what ? and if i did would i need to acclimate them to my DT water or what ? thanks. i gave them some flake food that i feed my dt with but they dont eat that neither :( Thanks.

TRUST me. you are more stressed than they are.
leave them alone.
put some pvc fittings from home depot and paint the bottom of that tank. other than that, leave them alone.

these are related to the damsel family and should eat like pigs, no offense to pig lovers. Did you see them eat at the lfs, if so check you tanks pram. also for now put something dark under the tank there reflection will throw off there depth preception. If you didnt see them eat take them back, if they dont eat for the lfs they wont eat for you.

well most clowns dont stay the exact same color as when they are very young. the ones i have are only like 1 inch long. so i am sure they will change with time.

Ok well one of my clowns has passed away and the other is all alone in the QT :( So now what should i do ? I cant tell what is wrong with them other than they are not eating. It seemed like they were eating some Baby Brine Shrimp i put in there earlier with a turkey baster but they wouldnt eat flake or pellet food :( So what should i do ? I removed the dead fish. SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE..... ah this is so sad. I should have probably not even set up a DT or maybe if i had put them straight in there all my fish would have died. i dont know but it totally sucks.

Brine srimp is like feeding your baby nothing but candy. Switch to frozen formula foods. There are many different kinds. Being that it is one fish, don't get cubed. Buy frozen formula foods in a flat package. You can break off what you need. What are the water readings in the qt? Post ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, ph, SG and temp

Ok small update. Just did 2 gallon water change and he seems to be doing excellent today although he is alone now. The 1 small Black and white clown is appearing to be very healthy and being active now and eating pretty much anything i am putting in the tank. He is starting to swim all over the QT. So i will be patient now and leave him in there for 3 weeks like you guys say is best just to make sure he isnt sick or anything and its just hiding inside him. Well i think next week i will buy 1 more black clown to hopefully be able to pair up with the 1 i have. And also a Twin Spot Goby. Do you think i should put those in my qt as well or what ? I will more than likely put the clown in there with the other in QT but what about the goby ? Are gobies less likely to get sickness or what ? Thanks for the information.

Just out of curiosity, how big is this QT you're using? You want to be careful with how many fish you add at one time. Being your DT is only a 24G, if you try to put 3 different fish in at one time, you'll most likely crash it. Do you have any other fish in your DT? Based on it's size, you can't have more than 3 or 4 in it in the first place. If these two clowns were your first two fish to put in this tank, why even QT them? Most people here that QT, do it to protect the fish or coral that they already have in their DT. If you've got nothing but LR and inverts in your DT, what disease can you bring in that will affect them? If one of the two clowns did have a disease, they'd infect the QT and one another. So why does it matter? If you had no other fish in your DT, then doing this QT with these two clowns was a waste of time.

I completely disagree. It is much easier to treat a fish in a quarantine tank. Being these are clowns they could have come in with more than ich. Brooklynella is known as "clown fish disease" If the fish were introduced directly to the display and did have an issue then the rock would have to be moved or removed to catch the fish. The display would then have to remain fishless for six weeks. Always qt new purchases.
