found these on new live rock we just bought. the first photo is of some cocoon thing in a pocket in the rock. best guess is a sea squirt or tunicate? the second photo is quite poor but im wondering about the translucent anemone looking thing coming out of the hole below the baby feather dusters. it has longish tentacles with small whitish bulbs at the tips.

The first pic are sponges .... harmless filter feeders. I'm not sure about the second pic.

White stalks, brown tentacles? I think they look like Anthelia to me.

I was referring to that white patch to the right of the creature. I don't want to give you the wrong info about what the green thing may be, so wait for more responses ... somebody will ID it for ya.

If the green thing has not moved since your original post I would say a sponge. Not bad just let it be.
The reddish brown bulbs, have they done anything since your original post, opened up, grew etc? Could be some red bubble algae, could be some kind of polyp not opened up. Hard to tell.

nope, the bulb things have just kinda got a little more bulby. or gotten bigger i guess i mean.
i agree the green is likely a sponge, i found another in a larger cave and it seems to have two holes in it to let water more through it.

Two hole could also indicate a tunicate. Either way filter feeders, no problem here.
On the bulbs maybe Botryocladia skottsbergii AKA red bubble algae. Here is a picture.

yep, the closest i cam to an id on the green thing was a sea squirt.
thats a good lead on the bulb thing, thanks. my bulb thing definitely has a stalk on it which im not seeing on the red bubble algae but ill look for more pics and a good descript online.

Oh yeah there is a stalk even though not seen in that picture. Best to get them out of there being careful not to break them. I think the best method I have seen is to use a siphon hose during water change to suck them out.

so stalk with a bulb is bad then? what are you suspecting them to be or is it better safe than sorry? ill get 'em out.
