i have wasted about $750.00 on my aquaium, my mom brought my niece to take care of him while my brother went to pay some bills or something who knows?? anyways, my little niece took a bottle of habanero sauce and threw like 1/4 of the bottle in my tank, im not friggin joking :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:
what do i do now? i REALLY don't want to hear i wasted $750.00 on nothing..

well first what do you have in your tank that's living and do you have a skimmer running? annnnd do you have water on hand for a large water change? i'd say that's the first thing you should have or should do.

The first thing to do is run a lot of filter media and a lot of carbon.
Go out and get some 100 micron filter pads and absorb all of that.
If it were me, I might break the tank down and clean it out pretty thoroughly with white vinegar.

Agree with Anubisxero, Do a large water change. If you don't have a skimmer get one when the LFS opens. I think you will have some good success with those two things. If you only have LR and LS in the tank you might have just lucked out.

Any LFS...
Run the carbon and change it out every 2 days. I would make some water up for a large water change, also.

Ah, kids are kids. Do the water changes, get the carbon in there and get the pads. There is nothing in hot sauce that is going to permanently ruin your system.

It is HOT SAUCE, it is already dilluted with the volume of your water. Do like 2-3 large water changes, run the carbon. Hot sauce is mostly vinegar, oil and spices. Run the skimmer, you will be fine in about 2-3 weeks. Make sure you do some large water changes though. It isn't the vinegar and oil I am worried about, it is more the spices.

It amazes me as to how these kids choose what to put into the tank.

They never seem to dump water, snapple or anything that wouldn't cause any real harm to the fish.
.. it's almost as if someone put them up to it.
Clorox is very common, it's amazing that they have access to it in the first place.

when I was in college we were at a toga party at a friends house who happened to have a 55gallon aquarium. well somewhere around the 8 or 9th drink while our resident friend was hosting other guest elswhere we figured the fish would like a little bacardi rum like the rest of us. Course he walked in while we were pouring it out in the tank for our dead homies. Cursed us but was too hapily drunk to be too mad. maybe drunk but he was sober enough to do a large water change right in the heat of the party and the fish recovered quickly. Later that same night for some reason I was on the kitchen floor and they thought it would be fun to pour a little barcadi on me and drop matches to see if I would light. I was too happily drunk to be mad. Both me and the fish survived that night. That dude was the one who got me converted to saltwater in the early 90's. Wasn't smart enough to not make me Godfather to his only son and best man at his wedding. we drank Barcadi at the wedding and after the christining!

If you put Mexican fish in there it will be fine

Seriously though... look on the bright side you didn't have fish in there and with water changes and filtering I would think you'd be fine.

I'll tell you what, if someone poured anything in my tank and things were looking bad, I am not sure what kind of sentence I could come up with either.
Please, provide help on the thread, but leave the comments on grammar to yourself. If you have nothing helpful to say....(I am sure you know where I am going with this).

Powertrip..Advice..Keep the habanero sauce out of reach for little children..Keep Habanero sauce in another room from fish tank..Agree with sepulation..It will just require water change
