i haven't added anything that wld carry a hitch hiker in over 2 months!
any suggestions on how to get it out? and are the green ones a huge threat to fish? i've herd about the 2 diff. types (slasher and something else) but dont know which is worse or what this one is.

depending on where your rock came from, it could be a n. wennarae (spelling??), peacock, or others, all of which of course can be a danger to fish, but more likely to just your inverts.
easiest way to get it out is since you know the rock its in, do a hyposaline bath of about 1.030 water and it should shoot right out. put it in your sump, or trade to a local person, don't kill it. they are quite marvelous creatures.
the only true way to identify them is by their merel spots. you can do a search for stomatopods and find a website dedicated to mantis.

luckily my inverts are just pods but it was in the same rock my trigger sleeps in....which happens to be about the size of 2 basketballs put together and under other rocks

i guess tomorrow my tank will get re aquascaped on that side.
i have mushrooms and polyps growing on that rock, will the high salin lvl kill or harm them?
i will prob keep it in my sump till i can make or find a home for it. if its a peacock i will probably set my old 29 gal up for it

i'm not 100% sure if it will hurt the shrooms... you could always try a bottle trap, but sometimes mantis shrimp are a little too smart for them (plus you'll catch everything else...). they do make mantis traps as well, but it's the same concept as a bottle trap IIRC.

I believe the green are the spearers and the peacock is the colorful one being the smasher. wait for cranberry to chime in.......

Wow, good job at catching him. What a cool free fuge pet. Just make sure you give him something he can build a home under.

I found a home for him. ( he was going to be snapping turtle food) but a friend wants to put him in a 20g, just for him, so he will be happy and safe there. This picture is before i caught him. sorry for the blurry pics, i was in hunting mode
