? on cutting starpolyps

My starpolyps are growing right off my rock. I know I can cut them but I don't know how. The rock it's on is covered and I'm scared to take the whole rock out so I was wondering if I could use VERY sharp scisors and just cut off the hanging part? Here's a pic.

you could always just put a razor in there and cut off whatever you want.
on a side note, those look like xenia...

Maybe I'll take a pic. tonight when they have gone in. It's easier to see the part that needs to be cut.

a clean new razor blade would be best because you can cut more accurately. are you going to keep the frag? or are you just going to toss it? if you're keeping it use a rubber band to hold the mat to whatever you're attaching it to.
That's definitely GSP.

It's not a good pic. I have 2 kinds of star polyps on the same rock. Here's a better pic. On the right is one kind it has purple flesh and on the left is another kind, it has white flesh. I couldn't decide which I liked better so I got both

what is gsp? I'm planning on trading at LFS, but he said he didn't want a carpet piece so I was going to glue it to a rock. Would the rubberband be better?

only reason i was wondering is because all gsp and psp i've seen have a purple matt, and this ones white matt reminds me of xenia

What I did when I got my piece from a friend (because he was too afraid to do it himself) was wait until the lights go out for the night, and then polyps retract into the purple mat. Then take a new razor and just cut the mat in between the retracted polyps and tada youre done. Rubberband it to a rock or superglue.
And also, wow you have alot of yellow ones

Yea, I'm trading the yellow ones in on Sat too. I think I'll trade the 2 front rocks and keep the yellow polyps on the side. They do good next to the star polyps. And that will make room for new corals!!
Well thanks for all the help. I think I will use a razor and cut it and ruberband it to a rock. It shouldn't take too long for it to attatch. That huge batch I have on that rock was a 1" strip I got for 3 bucks!

you dont need a rubber band, just use krazy glue. i did the same thing last night. i just got a razor and sliced right through the mat, which was really thick, then peeled it off. then i just glued it on a small piece of rock and it already opened up. i gave it to my friend

Well, I did it. I used a razor and cut off the overhang. My crazy glue dried up (it always does that!
) So I used rubber bands. I did it early this morning when I got up (about 5:15 am) The parent is opening, but not like it usually does. It's kinda dwindly and the piece I cut off has a couple starting to open, but the other light hasn't come on either. So hopefuly their just being lazy.
