? on mushrooms multiplying

How come my mushrooms don't split, they actually have little babies?
I took this pic for another question, but it also works for this question.
You can see that my big red shrrom had a little tiny red baby and my green stripe shroom had a little tiny green stripe shroom.

Anyone know why?

While they will propagate in both ways "dropping kids" is merely the way they are reproducing in your tank. Seems to be the most common method. Sometimes the offspring will morph into a different color due to the lighting change between where the original came from and your lamps.

I see, thats pretty cool. I have only bought 2 colors of mushrooms red with purple/blue spots and green stripped. But now I have different colored ones I didn't buy. I thought they were cross breeding.
I guess you learn something new every day!!

Thanks

You could have had small pieces that came with your rock, too. They just didn't begin to grow and show themselves until now. I had a green ricordea show up on some rock nearly a year after I acquired it. It later split and I have 5 nice sized specimens.

They will "drop kids" and drop, and drop, and drop, and drop, soon they will take over. Good trading material though..
