One ich question I can't find the answer to...

Ok...ich experts, here's one for you.
We use hyposalinity for new arrivals in a quarantine tank, and we haven't had an ich outbreak since.
BUT -- in our large reef tank, there is still some ich present, demonstrated by a purple tang we put in there that became a spotted purple tang in a week. He's out, and in a hospital tank getting cured.
Here's the thing. I want to rid that tank of ich forever, and I figure the only sure fire way is to remove all the fish for 2 months. Tomites dont' eat, they don't live.
Plan is underway, EXCEPT, there are two chromises left in the reef that I can't get at, they have escpaped my tactics for catching them for a week. Here's my question.
The chromises (there were 8, I caught 6) have NEVER shown a single sign of ich, even when tankmates were infected. Everything else has been removed.
If a fish does not contract ich, is there a chance they remain a 'carrier'? In other words, lets say they don't contract ich in the two months I have the tank free of all other fish. Will the ich die off due to a lack of host since these guys seem ich resistant? What do you guys think?
Thanks for reading.

Just because you don't see it, doesn't mean they don't have it. The tank needs to be fishless.
I suggest you strave the chromis out. Don't feed them. And when they are desparate enough to come up to try and get food out of your hand, try to nab them.

Thanks for replying Beth, I had a feeling you were going to say that.
The problem is, I can't starve them out, I have a pair of skunk cleaners and a pair of blood shrimp in there that mate and hatch so regularly the chromisis get a treat of live larvae on a regular basis.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to take the plunge and take the rock out to get them. Only have to do it once, right? :)

Well, after this time, you'll never have to do it again...since you'll be using a QT in the future, right?
:D

My hippo tang had ich and I took just him out - couldn't deal with chasing them all out - endless battle. Noone else ever showed signs of ich.
6 months later hippo tang still clear, and no signs on anyone else.
Not saying it will work for you, but....

Ah Beth, always on patrol :)
Actually, we started using a q tank for all new arrivals, this tank predates that. We'll get it right!
