one of mated pair died

I had a death recently. One of the two of my mated pair passed away. I only had them for about 18 months. They were always swimming together and full of life. Then, one morning I woke up and the male was lying on the sand bed. It looked like he had a cloud in his eye. I checked the water perameters and everything was normal. Ph was good, amonio was close to zero and nitrite and nitrate were also low. I tried to add some prima fix and mela fix to see if that would help. He seemed a little better for a few minutes, but ultimately died. My question is, whether or not I can add another clown now? I know you are really not supposed to add clowns in intervals, like tangs, but am wondering if anyone has had success doing so, especially with a mated pair?

Do a water change to get ammonia/nitrite at zero. You can still add another clown, just make sure its quite a bit smaller than the female. She may beat it up for a couple days but should accept it before too long.

Sorry for your loss.

You certainly can get another for your pair. I would wait a month and then make sure that the new clown is much smaller than your old one. The newbie will get picked on for a while, but will find it's place as the male.
