One of those bad nights

I came home from work tonight to find my goldflake moray and full size koran angel dead  . I went to stick my hand in the water and pulled it out right away.. The heater in my sump had gone nuts. the temperature in the tank was 96 degrees!!!! I replaced the heater and I finally got it back down to normal tonight. The only thing left in the tank is a sand sifting star fish and a small fimbrated moray... 125 gallon tank is empty. I had the koran for over 2 years. I figure since I only feed them every other day it must have happened 2 days ago to heat that much water up 20 degrees.

That sux. I had the same thing happen with a heater many years ago. I thought that all heaters were the same, so I bought a cheaper one... Never again.

My regrets as well.
I actually had one explode like a hand grenade which REALLY caught my attention.
Take a deep breath and think about the room you now have...it's the only thing that helps.

Thanks.. I guess you are right to start thinking about the room i have now to populate. My little fimbrated moray ate this morning so i think he is going to be ok..
Anybody have suggestions for new tank mates for him??
Empty 125 gallon tank to fill. Lots of rockwork.

LMAO!
He said one hundred and twenty five gallons, not eleven hundred and twenty five gals, Bull!!!
You'll probably end up not being happy without another angel, and for me the best therapy is to try aonther species that you like..............that way you'll accept it for what it is and learn as it grows instead of expecting it to be just like the other one.

Everyone I talked to said Groupers are like saltwater Oscars. they are really greedy fish. Is that true?
I told the local LFS about what happened and he offered me another Koran for 20 bucks. I haven't decided to get it yet or not.
I was thinking of getting a couple of Volitan Lionfish.. 2 should have plenty of room in a 125 shouldn't they?

Due to their laid back nature, they'd be OK, but are going to appear much larger than you suspect, and if you try to include a large angelfish in there as well, you might have problems....I'd expect the angel to become a bully, both from its territorial nature and much more active swimming style.
Groupers are worse than oscars...they ALL get larger than an Oscar, are more territorial, have MUCH larger teeth and tend to hide most of the time.
To enjoy a grouper, I'd want at least a 300 gal. tank.

Yes. Voracious eaters.

".........This is the aggressive forum, right?"
judging by the types of fish we have been talking about I'm going to say yes.

LOL!
That's the one bone of contention I have with most marine sites.....there needs to be a distinction between predatory and aggressive.
While the lionfish ARE predatory with huge mouths they are probably one of the least aggressive fish you can find, easily intimidated by almost anything with an attitude......in fact, sharp-nosed puffers and tobies are famous for killing them!!
Groupers, unfortuneately, are often BOTH aggressive AND predatory, as are many triggerfish.
Here's another "community tank" with NO aggression.
Honest!

I really hope you dont think I was being sarcastic, asking you about the aggressive forum. I never mean anything bad with my posts, or if I do you'll know..:)
Its all about the great conversation we have here!

I know what you mean about the triggers being predatory.. I watch 3 triggers tear apart a 12" lionfish at the LFS one time. they weren't just picking on him. they were tearing him up relentlessly.

John,
I didn't think you were being sarcastic. I was just trying to get a few ideas on what to put in the tank..
