Hi I am just getting my tank started and I was wondering how safe it is to purchase fish online. I live in Michigan and right now it is pretty cold outside. So would you recommend buying them in a petstrore, waiting until its warmer outside ect.. Just hoping someone could offer some advice for a new saltwater hobbiest... Thanks

Welcome to the board!
Most online retailers will add a heatpack if you ask them.

All online retailers I have used use heatpacks when ordering in the winter months.
In the summer months there are cool packs in the packaging.
I live in Iowa, so weather is always a factor.
Keep in mind I recommend that you have fish delivered at work so you can keep the fish as climate controlled as possible.

You also have the option of having it held at the shipper's terminal for pickup. Depending on when delivery is guaranteed, it can save a few hours of being in a cold (or hot) truck.
I did receive an order recently, and everything was nice and toasty with the heat packs. Temps were in the 30's-40's though. Just my opinion but with the current cold snap we are having, it may be better to wait until it warms up a little bit to be on the safe side. At least until overnight temps aren't zero!
