Most people like to look at the fish they are adopting. All books I have read suggests having the LFS feed the fish before you get it so you can watch how readily it eats. Fish harvested using cyanide will not eat.
On the other hand, I have read nothing but good comments regarding livestock from SWF.com. I will probably make future purchases from them. Prices are better than my LFS.
Another point to make is that my LFS does not guarantee the fish at all. SWF.com offers a 6 day guarantee...can't beat it with a stick!
I've ordered online b4 and I was thoroughly satisfied. This fish are healthy, large, and colorful, and usually adapt nicely to tank life. I plan to do it again in the near future.
Haven't purchased any livestock other than my LFS but from what I have read here, I most liekly will soon. I too like to see what I am buying before hand but with some of the prices of the more exotic animals, online/phone ordering might be the way to go.
my first mail order of salt fish was a complete disaster and wiped out my hole tank(not from saltwaterfish.com) but am getting an order from here tomorrow am and will let you know
The only online store I bought live stock from was saltwater.com. The fish, corals, and clean up crew are awesome. It was some of the best aquatic life I have gotten in a long time. I plan on ordering from them again when I set up my next tank in a few months.
