Online ording

The only thing I bought at a lfs was a mushroom rock(60.00) and the actual tank and start up supplies. Everything else (lr, filters, lights, fish and corals)I've bought online. It's way cheaper and easier! I know your looking to upgrade your lights so if you're not sure yet don't buy them. Keep looking. When you've finally found what you need for your tank you will know. If you can afford it a mh+vho or mh+pc for your tank will be the best IMO. If not go with vho or pc. Pc being the cheaper one. I checked several websites before upgrading from 2-30 watt NO to 2-95 watt VHO. I'm very happy with the new lights. Check out these websites if you haven't already. www.hellolights.com www.championlighting.com www.icecapinc.com The icecap website has links to a bunch of other online lighting stores. Good luck with finding the right ones for you.

Since I live in Alaska I have to buy alot of stuff online. Even with shipping it is a lot cheaper. I fly down to Seattle mainly for corals, fish, and inverts. :)

all the equipment is bought online -because there is no comparison between costs--but the tanks themselves and heavy junk like salt and cc, and all its inhabitants were purchased here.
I bought a fish online once a few years back--it didn't go well to say the least. Besides if I never bought anything from the lfs they'd go out of buisness--and for as much as they charge--I do need them and owe them some of my buisness-(it just won't be on $250 filter that I can get online for $110)

At first not much but now that I know what I know, most of my purchases will be on-line. I guess it all depends on what kind of lfs you have nearby.

Thanks to all the wonderful suggestions this site and it's members have given me... I just placed an order for my 2 250w 5500 MH's and also a build your own Cleanup Crew from swf.com. Prior to reading up on this site I made another online purchase of the 5 for $55 corals from flyingfishexpress.com. I was indifferent about the coral shipment. One brain coral seemed to be on his way out when I got him... but the rest of the coral was in fine condition and is still around to this day :)
Of my tank inhabitants right now... about 35% of them came from online resources.
