thats wierd. they are a stoney coral and should have plenty of light. little polyps are supposed to come out of it's pores. put it some where in the middle or top of the tank and se what happens.

If what you have is a sun coral, then they don't need light. But they like current. You don't have to hide them from light just be careful about algae growth. Also, you're better off having them in the open where they'll be easier to feed. I found that mine had to be fed at least three times a week. Once the're trained, they'll open during the day when they expect to be fed.

Yes they are "sun coral". I hate the fact that they do not open. Is there anything that i can do to encourage them to feed? I don't want them to die due to my lack of forsight....:nope:

They are non photosynthetic and require alot of food. Put it under a ledge or something out of direct light. They seem to respond better that way.

Mine really like squid and mysis shrimp. Do like waterfeller said. If they open some time at night then feed them then. If not, always feed them at the same time so they come to expect the food at that time. You may need to tease them a little with some food or juice from the food. Then wait for them to open and feed them.
Be careful. So much feeding can affect your water quality. So you should test your parameters more often than usual.

Thanks all,
I know how to tease suff to eat, so I'll give that a go tonight and let the skimmer earn it's keep.
I did not know they could eat w/o being open. live an' learn
thanks

what you do is tease them with a little food near them...then when it relizes that there is food out there..it will open to eat.

When I first purchased the sun I had to feed when the lights where off. It would not come out at all when the lights were on, even using cyclopez. I made a mixture of DT, krill, & cyclopez. I had a 1ltr bottle with the bottom cut out and used a turkey baster to squirt the mixture in. Every 5-10 minutes I would stir up the mixture with the turkey baster. I will do this for about 30-45 minutes. Now the sun comes out severy times during the day and always at dinner time. The sun is alot of work but worth it when you see the end result.
