Orange Linckia

Are these pretty easy to keep? I want another star fish to go with my Brittle. These would add a little color to my tank.
Thank you for your opinions!

If you have a large tank with 100 plus lbs of LR and good stable water, they are fairly easy to keep after a long 3/4 hr acclaimation.

So not a good star fish to have in a 46g tank with about 50-60 pounds of LR?
Does anyone have another option for my tank>? I have a brittle already? Something different that could be beneficial.

red serpant stars are cool. Also another small red star i think its called a fiji star or something? those are small and reef safe. I have had a blue linkea and a purple linkea in my previous 75 gallon tank with about 80lbs live rock without any problems.

Oh!! They eat coraline?? I'm definitely going to try to keep one then!! I might be one of the few, but I like my glass completely clean!

Opps, me bad

Again, your tank is to small. sorry, but they do not eat algae sheets, please research before you buy this star. It may live awhile, but it will deffinetly starve in such a small tank.

serpents are cool, but they hide a lot. but they move fast and are also good ground cleaners. i had a blue linkia, but it died shortly after i got him. so far, i think my favorite star i've had would be the "knobby start" they sell on this site. it looks interesting and is always out somewhere slowly moving around. i don't think they are considered reef safe though, however i haven t had a single problem with it bothering any of my corals. it usually stays off them, but i have seem him on a few once in a great while. but either way, there was no negative impact on any of the corals from it being on them.

Success with a Linckia is determined by keeping them 12-18 months. Please do not consider it "success" until this time.
The tank is quite small. IMO, DO NOT COUNT on the star taking to spot feeding. Some will, some won't. Ensure you provide the MINIMUM needs, which is a good amount of LR on which to feed.
Enough of these stars die in this hobby, and I believe your tank is marginal to keep one. It may work, but IMO, it is on the small side.
These are some of the most delicate animals to keep. They need a large, mature reef tank with PRISTINE water parameters. Please ensure your tank meets at least the very basic needs to keep one.

It's kind of funny because some of you suggest a red serpent instead yet SWF suggests that the red serpent is more difficult to keep than the orange linckia. They actually lable the orange linckia as easy to care for.
Well I placed an order with one included. My order was being processed within a few hours much to my surprise. I think we'll do ok together.
Like I said, I would have gotten a red serpent but SWF suggests they are more difficult... while the orange linckia is easy.

Not LFS... SWF.com. This very own website. Go look for yourself.

The red serpentstar IS much more delicate on acclimation than most other brittlestars, so YES I would consider it a bit tricky to keep...at least the first month. Grouping species together in terms of care can be risky.
