Orange Sun Coral

I was just wondering about others experiences with sun corals. I understand that they are difficult to keep, but I thought I would give it a try. I bought this frag and figured I could probably rescue it from the inevitable. I have had it for 2 days and I have gotten it to eat both nights. The polyps are barely coming out, so I am just going to keep at it until I can make this coral happy.
Here it is on the first day:

They are not to difficult to keep. Just have to feed it daily and try and put them under a ledge or out of direct lights.

i agree. they are easy, providing the keeper feeds them daily. if you want them to come out, just put some food in the water column after the lights go out. they will "smell" it and open up to catch some.

i got a baby polyp for free about two weeks ago and i feed it about every third day and its grown tissue since i got it. tonight i fed it a mysis and it wasnt open at all but it opened just enough to swallow it. i think turning off the flow helps when you feed

I turn off my PH'swhen I feed...so far things are going well. I actually rigged a cover so my fish will stay away while the coral eats. It is difficult to feed if left open to a passing fish. The coral ate mysis last night...I am going to try to go to every other day on the feedings at some point, but I want to make sure the coral is doing well first.

All is going well and coral seems to be responding to the feedings. They open up a little more each night. Notice the new growth on the tallest polyp on the left. I think that will be two more polyps.

you need to look into some dendrophyllia. they resemble the polyps you see in front of you, but are open in the light.

I have been away on business this week and my son helped me take care of this cool coral...It just keeps getting fuller. I think it is going to be just fine. I am going to work on finding a spot that it may open up during the day. Here it is after 2 weeks:

I just realized that I should have put this thread in the non-photosynthetic forum. Sorry
. Please feel free to the Admin move to the other forum.

I have some black sun corals. They are doing great. They open all the time. I feed 3-4 times a week. I rotate mysis, cyclopeeze, and my home made stuff. They are growing good.

Nice work! They are doing very well. I rescued a yellow and an orange set of sun corals from my LFS. They were going downhill because they weren't able to feed them at night. I had them in my tank for 2 weeks now and they will even open during the day now. I love these. I think I have all the colors now.(black, yellow, and orange) Do they come in other colors?

looks awesome! i have one too. if you start feeding it during the day, it will open then. mine is open all day long, not just at night.
