I LOVE diving. I have been through open water, advanced open water, wreck diver, medic first aid diver, and now I am a certified search and rescue diver. That's why I got into SW tanks. Georgia is landlocked and I can't go diving as much as I want these days. :D

How about black water/ice diving? Brrrrrrr and you can't see squat!!!! Oh - oops - probably not much ice OR zero visibility diving in the CAYMANS!!! Have fun!

I live in Galveston, only two blocks from the beach, but it's too cold to go now. :( I've never gone scuba diving before, is it fun? SOmetime in 2003, my bf and I have a vacation planned for Florida, where I intend to do some scuba diving. Any tips? And are there any GREAT places I absoulutely MUST go to while I'm down there? This is a first for me! :)

Been diving for 12 years, it's great. I did the caymens about 7 yrs ago. make sure you dive the north wall of the big island, I got to see a school of hammerhead sharks there, can't be beat. I am going to austraila and new zealand in June. If you think watching your tank is cool, hang on to your fins cause this will knock your booties off!!!! :D

I just got back from Roatan a few months ago. We made 30 dives. I'm a divemaster and I must say it was much better than any of the other places I have been.

I love it. I've done several dives off the Belizian keys and one of the atolls (there are only a couple and they are all of the coast of Belize). This reef system is second in size only to the Great Barrier. It extends from north of Cancun (use only as a hub of trnasportation!) all the way down the coast and over past Honduras. I would recommed anywhere in that area over any other place on this side of the world. Visiblity is an unbelievable 100+ meters most of the time. Clearest water I've ever seen.

Dving is what got me hooked on saltwater tanks. I have been diving in Cozumel, Grand Caymen, Malta and Florida. The Blue Hole in Malta is absolutely on of the best dives I have done. Cozumel is what most closely resembles are tanks.

Scubamedic....did you stay at a resort on Roatan? my girlfriends parents took me diving with them at the end of August and I have been to many different places around the world and Roatan is probably some of the best diving I have ever done. All there is to do there is dive, which I like! We stayed at Fantasy Island and went with a dive group from Waco and had a great time.

If I were a millionaire I would retire now and become a dive bum somewhere, but I'm not :( (I'm 25 and earn a good living, but long from retirement). I've dove Hawaii, Bermuda, Florida, and Ecuador and the Galapagos were I lived and went to college (met my wife there too for those of you that saw my pic in the OT pic forum. Galapagos was awesome obviously, and nice and barren when it comes to people and resorts. I studied at the Charles Darwin Foundation and we travelled to some of the islands by boat. I would ultimately love to hit the South Pacific, which blows away the diversity just about everywhere else.
What I can recommend for you Jillian is this. My mother lives in Fort Lauderdale and we visit there and dive the keys. One of the best locations is accesible off of a beach in Fort Lauderdale called Lauderdale-by-the-sea (the town name). Take Atlantic Blvd. straight to the ocean and snorkel or dive near the pier. It was an unbelievable surprise as we saw sea turtles, eels, nurse sharks, sting rays, cuttlefish, octopus, and almost all of the angelfish and butterfly species Florida has to offer, right off of the beach snorkelling! It was a great surprise to my brother and I, as we had just expected it to be a casual snorkel. The great thing about snorkelling is that you don't have a clock to check and you are limited instead by how "pruney" you get (and sunburn on the back!) Look it up if you are in the south Florida area. It's a good day trip for nondivers too.

I had the pleasure of snorkling in the sinai, that was pretty cool. I grew up in Egypt and Jordan so i did alot of snorkeling in the red sea. went to a place called basata and sharm el shekh and they were absolutely beautiful. for an 8th grade field trip we just went around and visited alot of spots along the coast and there was noone there just our class. it was awesome. from then on i have been trying to do it as often as possible.
never did get a chance to go scuba diving though. definately want to some time in the future.
